antibiotics don't work very well for sinus infections. But they can be delivered via a nebulizer or even IV if necessary.
Augmentin works pretty well.
Quinolones and floroquinolones have very dangerous side-effects. The FDA has been petitioned numerous time to put a "black box" warning on them. Some people want them taken off the market altogether. If taken with Prednisone, the chance of a side-effect is greatly enhanced. Levaquin and Cipro are the most dangerous (ruptured Achilles tendons, peripheral neuropathy, permanent nerve and connective tissue damage, etc. Avelox is also very toxic. These drugs are not antibiotics -they are a form of chemo-therapy. Only in an instance where all other avenues have been exhausted (surgery, other antibiotics) should they even be considered.
