Last night i was relaxing and decided to read my Diabetes Management magazine. I came upon an article about treating diabetics with hbp. the mag listed each med, how it works, the dosage and side effects. Well I was very shocked to see that hctz could cause high trigs and high cholesterol as well as increase in glucose.
When i read this article, i was a little angry bcuz that is me of the meds my gp gave me to lower my bp. It didn't lower it and caused my cholesterol to go up significantly and my glucose a1c is higher in spite of my diet. Instead of my dr working with me as a team, he just kept giving me more prescriptions for cholesterol with higher dosage. I wondered why my endo would not comment. He just told me to decrease the dosage of hctz back to 25mgs. But according to my mag most diabetics take other direutics that aren't thiazide. I have since stopped taking it and gone back on avapro at this time. Hopefully I will not suffer any side effects.
Any and all experiences with thiazide would be helpful.
