   metformin (Diabetes board)

2nd September 2007
I just started on this medication 4 weeks ago.....I am on it for insulin resistance.....I thought I had seen that on CNN and so I called my brother who is a Retail Pharmacist and asked him about safety of it..................As long as you do not have kidney, liver or heart disease it is supposed to be safe............so far so good for me............

I also did a ****** search...................there was a study on Avandia but it was inconclusive............. I am not big on results of studies being accurate due to the $$$$ Big companies backing the studies........but I think the Metformin is safe for most people ...............time will tell........

If you find out anymore info let me know..........

Cora is right...it was Avandia that was linked to increased risk of heart attacks. Metformin (trade name Glucophage) is a completely different drug and has not been linked to increased heart attack risk.
