   Avandia/Avandamet users (Diabetes board)

27th July 2007
Has anyone else read the recent medical articles relating avandia with heart failure? I have to admit I have been avoiding my doctor because of recent problems in my life I have not been on my diet or medicine. I recently started back taking my avandamet and going thru the horrible 2 weeks of side affects, but I have decided to stop once again due to these new warnings. My father has coronary artery disease that was first diagnosed in his 40's, that doubles my risk of heart disease, then I have the diabetes, another doubler, so at a 4x percent chance I don't want another drug adding on top of that !?!?! I am gonna stop being stupid and make an appt. with my doctor asap. I was just wondering what other users were thinking about this. They are seriously considering taking it off the market. I do not feel safe taking this.

I have been following most of the controvery concerning Avandia. Was on it about two years ago and was taken off it when my legs swelled to about twice their size. Just this last week was diagnosed with heart failure. I am devestated. When they took me off the Avandia they did an echocardiogram which showed the beginning of heart failure but they did not tell me until Monday when I had atrial fibrallation and was admitted. Even then the avoided telling me had Iit. I found out from my discharges pages and talking to my doc. This is unacceptable! I am so scared now. On insuoin but had trouble the whole time I was on Avandia. Karen
