Depends on your body and the severity to which it responds to environmental changes. Me, very high DHEA & Free Testosterone levels, mild hirsutism, menstrual pains, and facial & body acne. Medications while they helped, were not good enough as I would always breakout out worse during my Breakout Cycle (9 months of the year)..,my diet eliminated my breakout cycle. I'm not perfect at percentages but:
Birth Control - 50% clear - 6 months
Birth Control + 200mg Spironolactone = 60% - 75% clear (but usually only 60%) - 3 years
2mg Avandia + 150mg Spiro = 70 - 85% clear (usually 70%) - 1 year
Customized Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Trans Fat Free, Added & Refined Sugar-Free Diet = 99% clear skin, little sebum production, nearly invisible pores, elimination of menstrual pains. --- 2.5 years & going
*Only thing it doesn't do is eliminate my hirsutism (went off spiro to test for 6 months), it in combo with Spiro is the most effective treatment, so I'm back at taking 100mg of Spiro for that purpose only.
I managed to dramatically reduce my acne, due to hyperandrogenism induced by Insulin Resistance Syndrome (asymptomatic health problem). So, if you have a hormonal imblance (or preventable health problem), you can probably handle most of your signs & symptoms with proper dietary changes and then try eliminating the rest of your symptoms with supplements or if need be medications.
Of course, in the end, your body will determine what treatment methods are most effective, regardless of what you feel is the "easiest" method for you. So definately listen to what your body is trying to tell you.
