Constipation & Acne-Clogged at both ends! (Acne board)

17th March 2003
Black eyes,
It's so good to hear things are still going well for you =)

DS,
I personally try to find alternatives to pain killers, etc ;-) Yes, I'm still taking spiro and it has been 4.5 years now since I first started. Either the summer before I started or the one after, I accidently discovered that GINKGO BILOBA eliminated my menstral pains (forget my BC pill one day and spotted with no pain).

Now prior to this I was taking 1800mg - 2400mg/day of Ibuprofen during my menstural pains (no PMS). I had been doing this since I was 11 and the reason I was put on BC was to help prevent a possible ulcer. Except the BC NEVER eliminated my pains, so I was still popping them, usually on empty stomach, and I guess I've been very lucky considering...

My pains were TERRIBLE! I'm talking muscle spasms, sweating, cramping, to the point where I would be doubled on the floor crying, even if I just forgot to take my ibuprofen (motrin) on time. So once I realized Ginkgo worked, I dropped the Ibuprofen and started using this. I used to use some brand at Walmart (Sundown), it's cheap and they were 400mg capsules. I would take this ONLY when my period started at, normally 2 capsules 2x a day. Sometimes I would need 3 capsules and sometimes I could get away with only one dose that day, it just depends.

Other things that I noticed helped me was when I was put on AVANDIA over a year ago. This is used for Type II Diabetics or those who are Insulin Resistant (IR). Except those with PCOS have this because they are or will be IR so we also take this drug. 2mg dose eliminated the pain by 50%, so I was able to now use less Ginkgo. =)

This past summer I noticed that while I was taking PROBIOTICS (1 capsule of Natren Healthy Trinity) that my pains were gone too. That's interesting because at the time I had run out of Avandia, I basically learned to listen to when it was time to take my Ginkgo and that "wierdness" never came. That effect lasted me til the end of my period, with 1 capsule a day, but I haven't tested this one out since because I went back on the avandia.

Now, what has PERMANTLY eliminated my pains and greatly cleared up my acne, is my GLUTEN Free/Low Carb/Insulin-Androgen Controlling diet. Feel free to call it what you want, but it works along the same principles as Avandia. Perhaps the reason the Probiotics worked, was because it was helping my body breakdown sugars, etc I'm guessing the Ginkgo worked because it increases circulation throughout your body and especially to your sex organs. So now, I don't depend on Avandia (don't even take this now), Ginkgo, and most definately OTC pain killers any more. =)

Oh yeah, I always noticed that I wanted sweet foods when I was in pain, even though I had this feeling that the candy was making my pains worse. Now that don't rely on pain killers, if I eat candy, I'll get a little response from below...so I try to avoid candy during this time. ;-) Also, in terms of the progesterone, if you can visit the thread about Yasmin, there's other women disscussing this.
