LOL, I think Karl may have gotten the idea to create this thread thanks to me and a few other ladies on here. I am about 5'5 and I've been 105lbs since I was 11. I'm now 23 and the only way I was able to gain wieght was to lift weights, take protein, and eat 5x a day...even then the most I wieghed was only 117llbs. Of course, as soon as I stop doing that, the wieght fell right off.
Hormonally, I'm probably more severe than some of you with acne in almost any place you can imagine, hair issues (too much or not enough) and menstrual pains. A change of diet and spiro took care of the majority of my hormonal symptoms. BC never added any wieght on me, Spiro dropped me by 10lbs (back to 105) and Avandia boosted me up to 5lb or 10lbs depending on the dose (1 year on 2mg, later 4mg for a few months). Unfortunately as soon as I dropped the Avandia, I lost that 10lbs =(
Anyway, to answer your question, our bodies needs Fat, cholesterol specifically, to create steriod hormones. Depending on your genetic defect your body may have a preference for a variety of symptoms or health/hormonal disorders that involve taking that fat (from Fat, trans fats, sugars/carbohydrates) and producng more body fat (overwieght, obesity) and/or producing more androgens (a little estrogen, but more so favors androgen). So because it appears that we may have high metabolisms, this has made a % of us more likely to get acne, or other symptoms, over becoming overweight!
This would also help explain why B5 is such a popular regimen. It is involved in hormone production, but I think it's stressed more so in helping you metabolize fats. You do not have to have a high cholesterol for this to be true as, your body may be using that extra cholesterol to produce hormones so it may not show on a blood test (I've always had normal levels and a really low LDL now). So, I guess if you metabolize these fats before your body uses them, less acne to no acne results ;-)
Of course, the more calories you consume, and more of the unhealthy foods are high in not just fats, carbohydrates, but also calories, the greater your chances are for ending up with one of these health/hormonal problems as high calorie dets also contribute to Insulin Resistance. I thought that taking Avandia (insulin sensitzer) was enough because I was already underwieght, but I HAD to change my diet too. Just because some of us are thin, doesn't mean that we can eat whatever we want because while we aren't getting fat, we do have other problems thanks to those foods.
That's my take
P.S. Poor sleep habits, stress, and lack of exercise contribute and may also be a factor for some of us.
