   new meds.... (Diabetes board)

7th June 2005
Robin,
I have no experience personally with this combination, but I have definitely heard of people who are Type 1 diabetics being given either glucophage or avandamet in addtion to their insulin.

I wasn't sure from your wording, but were you put on both Lantus and Lispro (Humalog). And are you counting carbs? The combination of Lantus and Humalog is often called "the poor man's pump", and while it's not quite as good as being on a pump, it definitely can help you achieve tighter control. You must, however, count carbs and test frequently.

Hopefully your new regimen will work out better for you and you'll be feeling better as a result of having tighter control over your blood glucose levels. Your new endo sounds like she's being proactive about helping you, and that sounds good!
