My blood pressure was very hard to control until a new doctor gave me 300 mg. Avalide along with a high dose of Atenolol (beta blocker) This combo is working for me...praide the Lord! I think the atenolol is one that's doing most of the work...it brings my pulse down to a very normal level and my bp has been very normal, evey low at times. I was getting readings as high as 170/120 before going on this medicine combo.
Things to keep in mind...Avalide has a water pill additive in it which can cause problems for some people. If you have a high resting pulse when not on the meds, you might suggest to your doctor trying a beta blocker along with the Avalide or alone. Just a suggestion. It's usually a "try and see" situation. My previous doctor would NEVER combine meds and would jump from beta blockers, to ace inhibitors to calcium channel blockers with no relief!....I even had higher BP and higher pulse! This combo of AValide and Atenolol does seem to be working so far!
Go to your doctor and don't tolerate those bad side effect. There are other good drugs out there that work. Also, Avalide is very expensive and that is another reason why drug companies are pushing doctors to prescribe it. Food for thought.
