Last night at 8:00 pm, I flushed my final hydros down the toilet. I've been taking about 12 per day now for almost 2-1/2 years. What a relief!!!
Now, the detox process has begun. I have confided in my doctor and my wife, although I left my family yesterday on vacation so I could take 4 full days to do this before returning to work on Monday.
I had been weening (slightly) over the last few weeks, down to about 8-9 pills/day. Yesterday, my final day, I took a total of 6.
My doctor gave me Welbutrin (said it would help me sleep and get through the first few days slighlty sedated...it's working) and said to drink lots of fluids. I have also taken the advice seen on these boards and I get out of the house every few hours to walk. I have also been advised to put on a 5% Lidoderm Lidocane Patch to help withdrawals. I put one onb efore bed last night and got a good night's sleep. Fianlly, I was given Avalide (150/12.5) to take 1x/day (in addition to my regular BP med) to help keep the BP somewhat stabilized.
Now, it's just wait and see. I know the worst is yet to come (diarreah, sweats, etc.) I know this because I tried this before, and I had these problems after the first 24 hours. Accept this time, I have no more drugs!!!
I am very excited about finally feeling alive again and not a prisoner to these drugs.
Am I on the right track? If anyone out there has gone through this and can give me some advice, I would really appreciate it!
