I was actually upset that my PCP put me on Vioxx knowing that I'm on BP meds (Avalide). I'm going to bring the article to him at my next visit since I don't believe he is aware of the risks to his patients since the information is quite new.
He freely provides pharmaceutical samples from his stash when meds are not needed for long periods of time. Unfortunately, most Rx patient information is not included with the samples.
FYI---you will be okay with aspirin. Medical insurance claims from more than 34,000 arthritis patients were studied to determine if arthritis drugs such as Vioxx and Celebrex, as well as ibuprofen, naproxen, and aspirin, increased the risk for heart attacks. Only the Vioxx appeared to increase the risk and it's believed to be due to a molecular problem rather the effect on inflammation.
