Davisme,
Avalide is a combination ARB(irbesartan)-hydrochlorothiazide(diuretic.)
ARB is an angiotensin-2 receptor blocker which shoud give you about 10 points BP reduction in systolic and less in diastolic. It probably will show NO side effects. The BP reduction will add to the effect of the HCTZ which works by causing sodium excretion. If you are a big salt eater, the diuretic may play the greater role...if lowish on salt the ARB will do most of the job. Together you'll get nice easy control.
No need to add potassium because of the HCTZ because the sartans retain potassium....a nice balance. I think you'll like the stuff!
