Hi - I've been here before but I searched this thread and didn't find my name, so I guess I never told my story.
I'm 37. Started breaking out the summer I turned 13. The doctor tried me on Retin-A and Erythromycin to no avail. When I was 19 and my family doctor finally put me on birth control pills, there was a huge improvement, virtually over night. My skin was never really clear, but it never got anywhere near the way it was when I was a teen.
So it continued until 2 years ago when I bought my house and suddenly started getting really bad acne. The only time it cleared up was for a couple weeks last winter when I was on Augmentin.
I've always taken good care of my skin. Two days ago I was challenged on whether or not I was over 18! But the downside of having skin like a teenager is... having skin like a teenager.
I just started a new BCP, Lo/Ovral, and starting today I'm going to try using benzoyl peroxide in the morning and salicylic acid in the evening. I also use an alpha hydroxy cream (more acid). Luckily, my skin is neither excessively dry nor excessively oily, so I don't have to worry about that, but it's "sensitive" - a lot of products sting and burn.
