how are my results (High Cholesterol board)

1st May 2006
Certainly not all of the claims made about supplements are nonsense. In particular, antioxidants are of great value, and there are studies which support those claims, regardless of the FDA's dismal failure to evaluate their usefulness.

As far as Lipitor is concerned, there is fine print from Lipitor's Canadian ads which states:

"Effect on Lipoprotein(a): In some patients, the beneficial effect of lowered total cholesterol and LDL-C levels may be partly blunted by a concomitant increase in Lp(a) lipoprotein concentrations. Present knowledge suggests the importance of high Lp(a) levels as an emerging risk factor for coronary heart disease. It is thus desirable to maintain and reinforce lifestyle changes in high risk patients placed on atorvastatin therapy."
