there ARE advantages of being hypO! (Thyroid Disorders board)

27th August 2004
Quote from Eagle:
Lady50, sounds like me. One time a new doctor, one of the imported ones that a friend told me was given a lot of freebees (?) to come here was making me angry about thyroid, probably just sexism, and my b.p. went up, so he wanted to put me on lipitor, we've heard so many bad things about, based on just one b.p. test! What has happened to all the American physicians? Something about malpractice insurance, or bad policy of outsourcing jobs overseas and bringing their people here? "Is a puzzlement", as the guy in "King and I" kept saying.

I don't think we're allowed to mention brand names here, but there's herbals you can order online, if you just do a simple web search. I received mine in just 3 days, 60 pills for $20. Only thing is, there's a couple of thyroid antibodies that would tell if we're Hashi, in which case the herbal, containing kelp and stuff, some selenium and a whole list of things, could either help or exacerbate. When shopping for a new doctor you could ask if they'll do that and immediately give you copies of your lab sheets. Some will keep them from you until insurance pays your bill, and as some other poster said, you need to test in advance whether they'll cooperate with you, return your calls, etc. I've actually learned to tell them I want to wait about any more tests (that they dream up) to keep my bills current, get acquainted, etc.

I didn't know to ask for the thyroid antibodies test, so I'm almost in the same boat as you. I forget if you said you've been on thyroid meds before. It might be a good idea not to tell them you had any refusals. Depending on your circumstances. They might tend to just agree with previous ones.

Just trying to help. Keep us posted and share solutions, okay?

"Atorvastatin [lipitor] is used with diet changes (restriction of cholesterol and fat intake) to reduce the amount of cholesterol and certain fatty substances in your blood." (national institutes of health)

if he was going to put you on lipitor for "one simple b. p. test", he doen't know what he's doing (if indeed he was trying to lower your blood pressure) ... unless it's a NEW! IMPROVED! treatment ...

did he give you a cholesteral test?

if you are correct, and it's not a new improved treatment, i'd go back, find out what condition he was prescribing it for (BP? i don't think so!!), say, "thankyou, doctor!" and report him ASAP ...

unless i'm mighty confused  ...
