Make the itching stop! (Allergies board)

5th March 2004
Hi,
Do you keep your skin moisturized? That helps some. Do you take meds? Some like atarax help itching. I take sulfasalizine, I am working up to a therapeutic dose and it is helping. You need to talk to your doc about trying meds to help if you are that bad. Navy

Hi all,
I have had very dry, itchy skin for many yrs. with dermatitis thrown in all over my body incl. my face. The only lotion on the market which is thick enough to help me is Aveeno, i also use their body wash. Showering feels wonderful when you're very itchy. I use either vit. E oil or baby oil on my body after i've washed then towel off lightly and use the Aveeno. my face is so bad that right now i use vaseline on it. Whenever i have the time, usually once every 2 wks., i take a warm bath with lots of vit. E and jojoba oil in it. The water is good for dry skin as it needs the moisture, it just isn't good to use hot water. I'm not sure i understand one of the earlier posts about people with skin allergies not getting allergy shots. My allergy dr. and dermatologist both recommended allergy shots which i have been getting 3 x wk. for 3 wks. I also take an allergy medicine 2 x day and atarax at night for the itching. Good luck!!
