Feeling Like My Heart Stops (Heart Disorders board)

7th November 2006
Hey Guys,
I posted on this board once before and I'll admit I am a major hypochondriac so when something like this happens it weirds me out.

I have had palpitations for a few years, generally stress related or anxiety. I can feel my heart racing or pounding. My heartbeat averages 75-85 normally and during palpitations 85-95.

When I have extended bouts of palpitations (and sometimes even when I'm not, or maybe I'm just not feeling it) I will get this quick, short, sensation in my chest. The only thing I can describe it as is my breath getting knocked out for a split second.

It scares me when it happens and my brain focuses on it for a LONG time. It has happend several times in the last few months, generally once or twice a week. However, the last two weeks I've had no palpitations, no problems, no nothing. My mind was on a lot of other things, and only when I got settled back down did my palpitations start again (or at least noticing them.) During that time I didn't have that feeling either.

So can someone tell me if this is palpitation related, something more serious, or am I just being overly cautious?

(Gen Info: I am 24 about to be 25, weigh 250 pounds, I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure though you'd actually find me in the pre-hypertensive category. I am on 16mg atacand pills once a day. I do not smoke, drink, or do drugs. I have also noticed that I can do very hard work and my heart not effect me at all. Like when I moved home I carried lots of heavy stuff down flights of stairs and into my house and not a time did I feel faint, weak, get chest pains.)

So please help:(
