Multiple Doctors and no real answer! Can you help? (General Health board)

17th July 2008
It started with nasal congestion in the morning. I would wake up stuffy and as I began my daily routine it would fade away. It started lasting longer and longer and now I'm stuffed up 24/7. I'm also now getting bouts of fatigue, weakness, nausea and the occasional fun hot flash (I'm 26!).

My regular doctor has had me try; clariton, zyrtec, allergra, flonase, astelin, sudafed, some other decongestant, and a sinus rinse. Nothing worked! She sent me to an allergist.

My allergist was a skin test and a blood test on me. Both were negative for any allergy in the panel. Not allergic to anything!

Then my doctor sent me to an ENT. The ENT looked in my nose with a scope. No deviated septum, no polyps, nothing suspicious. She ran a CT scan, nothing suspicious there either so no infection or tumor. So she is now calling it vasomotor rhinitis, which basically means a stuffy nose with no unknown causes.

My nose is just stuffed up constantly. Nothing changes it! No changes in temp, humidity, elevation, position, nothing!

Add my recent fatigue and weakness, the occasional nausea and hot flashes and I'm just plain confused. I went back to my regular doctor to add these symptoms into the mix and she ran a thyriod test, which was normal, a urinalysis, which was normal, and a fasting glucose test that was slightly high (112) but not too worrysome. I haven't heard back from her, but I can't imagine she has learned anything useful from this.

Any suggestions on tests to try or remedies for the nasal congestion?
