Needing some help (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

7th July 2008
Hi everyone! I'm new to the board. I have been reading through out all the posts of people having stomach issues and pains. And many people on here seem to be very knowledgeable when replying so I figured I'd give this a try. I have been suffering with severe stomach pains for about a year or so now. Mainly at my belly button, the bottom of my stomach, and over to my sides as of where my ovaries are. The pains is a major cramping feeling and shape pains that last sometimes days or could fade in a few hours. During the pains I do experience diarrhea and nausea. And I have noticed that sometimes I have mucus in my stools. When it is time for my period the pain gets so severe that taking even major pain pills don't help. I have been to my Gyno and they did an u/s on my ovaries---saying that I didn't have any cysts on them. I've had all kinds of blood work done in the past six months and everything was all fine. And just recently I found out that Pepto has aspirin in it....which I'm allergic to! Yes I should of checked the label but who would of though it would of been in Pepto. Could that be the problem......taking Pepto continues and being allergic to it? I have made me a doctors appointment for tomorrow and I was just wondering what I should ask about. Maybe some certain test or procedure to be done. I'm just so tired of always being sick and in pain. I do appreciate everyones replies and thanks so much for taking the time to read this! Have a blessed day!!

Talk to your doctor about the possibility of IBS or food allergies, or even IBS *with* food allergies. I have that. I often get mucus at the end of my stools, especially when I am stressed about something.

Just to make sure everything is okay, they should either do a stool sample while you are there or send you home with a kit where you can collect three samples over three days to turn those back in. They will check those for blood (mine have always come out negative - hence the IBS diagnosis years ago) just to be sure everything is fine.

Something you can do for yourself is to keep a food and emotion diary. What you eat when, when you get upset, when the symptoms come on. You may be able to look back and find a link. I discovered MSG and fast food fried stuff was a trigger for me.

You might want to check into Maalox or Mylanta as a replacement for Pepto. I honestly did not know it had aspirin in it, either! Yes, read the label. ;)

Let us know how everything goes.

Okay so i went to the doctor yesterday. She told me that the Pepto wasn't nothing to worry about because before when I found out I was allergic to aspirin that it didn't mess with my stomach. So it would be likely that it would harm it now! She pressed around on my stomach on my right side towards my pelvis, which was very tender. Then at my navel, which was Extremely tender. So she said it could be my appendix. She set me up an appointment to go today for a CT Scan. And said that it could possibly be a hernia. And if it was that when they did the Scan that it would show up. If it was neither of them then it could possibly be an ulcer. So she went ahead and gave me Prevacid to take once a day till next week when I go back to see her. She said that if the Scan comes back negative on appendix and hernia...and the Prevacid soothes my stomach and stops bothering me then it's surely an ulcer. Either way I am going back next week for further work up after this CT Scan. Just wanted to update everyone. And thanks so much for the help with this issue! Hope you all are well and have a wonderful day!
