   any help appreciated!! (Asthma board)

11th June 2006
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to see what your experiences have been with Asmanex. I was prescribed it by my allergist, and am hesitant to take it because of it being a steriod, and I am concerned about side effects.

He also gave me Zyrtec to try , and I haven't yet, but just might tonight, because my allergies have been horrible the past couple of days. I suffer from alot of shortness of breath during allergy season so my doc thinks it may be a mild allergy induced asthma. I don't really have wheezing though, so it is kind of strange. Does anyone else have chronic shortness of breath without wheezing? I also seem to get a high pulse rate during allergy season without any activity. I am thinking this all goes together with the allergies but my doc said it shouldn't....
Anyway, I have a slight heart condition which is why I can't take albuterol or anything that will speed my heart up. does anyone have any experinces with these meds or any suggestion??
Any would be greatly appreciated, as I am really going crazy, and actually do not enjoy spring and summer at all now.

I also have a higher than normal pulse rate when my asthma is acting up. I think it is just the higher demand on our hearts for oxygen. It makes sense that when your breathing is faster or harder you're heart will have to pump more. .. I don't know anything about Asmanex. I use Advair as a daily preventative and it has a steroid in it. But since the Advair is inhaled, the steroid should go straight to the lungs and not throughout the body. I have decreased my dosage and of course would like to take the smallest dose possible. Sometimes you just have to weigh the pros and cons and it is really important to me to get my asthma under control.
Cindy
