mom came for visit (Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia board)

18th March 2008
I found piles of plastic grocery bags in her hallway. I found moldy bread on the counter, a fridge full of old food...but she knew it and did not eat the bad food...

It took a long time for my mom to let me "into her world" to help her.

Today, my mom is so happy and relaxed, and we still await a 2nd opinion, but, she lets me help her now.
But, I will let her do what she can so she remains independent.
1 year ago, I told her to take the BP meds, and she refused and threw it in the trash...
Today, she takes it with orange juice...and the Aricept too.

My mom lives alone, I go on Mon/Tues to spend time with her. She is alone Wed and either Thur or Fri I have someone come drive or take her on the LRV's just so she gets out for 4-5 hours...Sat she rests up for my DH and he visits Sundays, mostly...

Just make sure her fridge is cleaned out, get her using the microwave...
Make sure her bills are getting paid, get POA it can be done slowly...
I was really panicking a lot when I first found this board...
But, I am realizing my mom can still do a lot.
This is a really crazy ride, this disease,

And spending time with an AD person can really wear you down, but, if you know how to respond, the ride is a lot smoother....
