Your Grandma is VERY lucky to have you!!! I work with elderly in a care center - I know that when someone is hard of hearing it is very easy to confuse dementia with the fact that the person hasn't heard a word you said - Today or any other day in the past months! So they seem confused. Sometimes a writing tablet the kind with a marker you can just swipe off with a tissue - helps alot. Elderly people also get confused when they are stressed out - the memeory short circuits. Stress for them can be reading the mail or getting a telemarketer on the line! Short term memory is always first to go in dementia and long term is last. Keep an eye on Granny. Watch for signs of buring food/forgetting burner is on and if she drives - try to give her a ride instead. This is stressful for her too - because they do know that something is wrong. If you see signs of her being unsafe - then check into an assisted living or care center - or if you have the time and ability you can help her but you can't stress out and watch her every minute!!! Not fair to you or her. Get her to a Dr. too - they have new meds like Aricept, etc... to help with memory loss.
