I'm a new kid (Kidney Disorders board)

1st April 2007
I suffered acute kidney failure 3 months ago from being given Fleets phospho-soda as a prep for routine colonoscopy-- it interacted with my hypertensive med (an ACE inhibitor). They have now pronounced me a stage 3 chronic kidney failure. I'm on the renal diet (yuk) and injections of Aranesp for the anemia. My functional kidney level is 28% Most of the time my mood is good, with occasional lapses into being angry at the gastroenterologist who gave me the Fleets. I'd like to hear from anyone who has been thru this, or has dealt with CKD for a while. I'm open to any helpful suggestions, encouragement, etc. Thanks!

Hi, Allie! I had another injection of aranesp today, so should be feeling stronger in a few days. They raised my dose last time, so I didn't dive as much between injections. You're not kidding about the itching and bruising! I showed my friend my belly the other day, nicely festooned with small purple bruises (my belly, not my friend) and today when I got home from work, there was a pottted helebores on my porch-- the "spotted lady" species! Having friends who know how to make you laugh sure helps! Hope your week goes well. Thanks for being there for the rest of us. I'll check in with all when I get back. Annette
