Quote from skimom:I have another question. From what I've read, people that start spiro seem to clear up quite fast with no initial breakout. It seems the BCP sometimes causes an initial breakout. Did you experience any initial breakout from spiro? I'm trying to decide if spiro or BCP would be better as far as a balance of hormones in the body. Also, I'm very close to ordering on-line to bypass all the HMO hoopla and waiting time waiting time. I'd like to order and THEN tell the doctor what I'm doing. If it's working, she'll prescribe it probably. Has anyone here ordered spiro on-line?
Skimom-
There was no initial breakout with Spiro what so ever. Some BCPs cause initial breakouts such as Yasmin & Ortho Tricylen (Regular & Low). I had the world's worse breakout with OTC-Lo.. it was a nightmare and i have the scars to prove it... it gave my cystic acne anong my jaw and cheeks! I was on for 4 months and the breakouts never stopped! I would stay clear of the stuff. Although the initial breakout MAY stop and your skin MIGHT clear, your daughter may be left with the scars (bumps under the skin & red marks). One BCP I know of that does not have the initial breakout is Apri (Desogen Generic). This is what I'm taking.
As for which to choose (BCP or Sprio), I would have your daughter try both in combination with each other. This is what I'm doing and its the best treatment I have ever come across. Plus, when you are on Spiro you wont get your period and you need BCP to counteract that side effect.
I'm sure you can get Spiro online, but you should be under a doctor's supervision because you have to have blood tests done every few months to check potassium levels. High potassium levels can be potentially fatal.
