Anyone got anything good to say about meds? (Depression board)

31st March 2007
I had been on Prozac for 12 years when I became extremely depressed. After a routine blood test my MD said I had hypothyroidism, which can cause depression. I was put on Synthroid and my Prozac dosage was doubled. Shortly afterward a psychiatrist put me on Anafranil for OCD.

Yes, some of my meds have noticable side effects. The worst is the Anafranil. I get constapation, constant ringing in the ears, constant dry mouth. But I lived with OCD for many years and the Anafranil helps a lot. It also caused me to lose a lot of weight, so I think it's a pretty good trade off. Prozac made me a little hyper at first, but I don't have any negative side effects anymore. As others have said, the main thing is that the meds have kept me alive. What I failed to mention above is that shortly before I was prescribed these meds I attempted suicide. Without the pills I may have been successful if I tried again.
