[QUOTE=janart;2782859]Do you have any idea which med is good for GAD. I've been on many but can't remember what helped with it.
hi jan,
well, the best drugs that reduce the symptoms of GAD and anxiety in general are actually the benzodiazepines (i.e., valium, klonopin, ativan, xanax), but they're also the most addictive. then there's buspar (it's not addictive and you won't feel dizzy or "spaced out" --or actually anything at --i was on it for a while and it didn't change my anxiety level one bit, but you may react to it differently). then there are the anti-depressants that they use for anxiety. there's effexor, that treats both depression and specifically GAD; then there are your various SSRI's/AD's: prozac, zoloft, lexapro, celexa, and paxil. there're also the older AD's (the tricyclics, such as tofranil-- prescribed to treat panic disorder and GAD, and anafranil, prescribed for ocd. sometimes beta-blockers, like propanolol or nadolol are used to combat the anxious feelings. i think the best treatment would be a combo of a benzo with an AD, plus therapy. this was actually the best thing for me. don't think i could've managed otherwise.
