   medication (Autism board)

18th June 2001
I have an 11 year old son diagnosed with pdd/nos who has just come off two years on anafranil and Zyprexa. He gained a tremendous amount of weight on zyprexa (and anafranil contributed to that). Zyprexa made him crave food and increased his appetite tenfold. He has been off for about three weeks and already lost 10 pounds. However, all the old problems have begun to return - distractibility, hand flapping, impulsivity, some aggression, unable to focus, more difficulty processing and anxiety - particularly at night the anxiety takes over. As soon as it becomes dark, he turns all the lights on in the house, checks locks, etc. Has anyone had experience with meds with less side effects? I would love not to need any medication, but he struggles so much functioning in large groups, at school, etc. Has anyone tried luvox or zoloft with their chldren? Thanks so much for any input.
