Hi all. I am newly diagnosed adult with ADD. The doctor prescribed Adderall but the pharmacist was concerned about my taking it because of a family history of heart disease (paternal grandparents, uncles). I have mitral valve prolapse and a condition called dysautonomia - both cause my heart to race. I take a beta blocker to control this in the a.m. and Klonipin to control it at night. I am told I technically do not have heart disease- but do I really want to take an amphetamine when my heart already races and absolutely wears me out? Has anyone confronted this problem? I called the doctor Friday and have not had the pleasure of his return call yet (it's Tuesday).
Also, any tips on getting the chaos under control in a family with both parents ADD and one of three children diagnosed ADD and another probable? For my children's sake, I badly want ORDER and STRUCTURE. I am desperate to start a medication that can help me help them all!
Thanks :)
