I wouldnt say its bad, there are millions of kids on amphetamines or other stimulants for ADD, he is just self medicating himself. As long as he isnt using more than the recommended dose, or using more than he is supposed to in one day, I dont see much harm in it. Ephedrine taken in even twice the recommended dosage can have devastating effects, or so Ive read, but at a recommended dosage I see no more harm in it than an amphetamine. I would say from experience twice a dose of ephedrine would be worse than 2x dosage of amphetamine.
Ephedrine has obtained a negative rap, due to the media sensationalizing it as an evil drug. Just because some athlete died from taking 4 stacker 2's and lifting weights for hours or some teen took too many yellow jackets and died, or whatever **** they can come up with for a story, doesnt mean its bad for everyone.
All stimulants have potential for cardiovascular side effects. It isnt much of a problem in therapeutic dosages, assuming the person doesnt have a heart condition, kidney condition, or anything else of the sort.
Ephedrine in itself isnt bad, its how a person uses it, thats true for all chemicals (drugs) actually.
However I would recommend in his situation, instead of using ephedrine and if the situation allows, I would definately go to a psychiatrist and ask for focalin or some other non stimulant drug that is developed for increased concentration. I have heard focalin, modafinil, and adrafinil are pretty damn good for increasing clarity of mind and concentration without the negative effects of your usual stims (caffeine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, ephedrine, etc).
