   Peculiar anti-biotics routine... (Allergies board)

14th May 2005
I am a little baffled. I have a bad infection, supposedly it is bacterial, at least thats the natural assumption. He has me on a FActil, Tequin, and Ketek routine... 1 pill a day, 2 factils, 3 tequins, and 5 keteks. Thing is, these are 400 mg pills and that seems like a really really small dose, I mean 750 mg is considered a low daily dose of amoxil. so im just wondering if this guy is just trying to keep me coming back for more or what

oh and this is day #2 since i started the anti biotics and i'm not the least bit better i thought antibiotics worked really quick, could this be a non bacterial (aka fungal asperigillius, etc) infection?

You can just base the strength of a drug on the milligrams. They aren't interchangeable from one drug to the other.

All three of these antibiotics are VERY strong drugs, much stronger than amoxicillin. They're all relatively new drugs, but they're powerful, and they work.

Also, just to clarify, the normal dosing for amoxicillin in adults is only 500mg three times daily, so 750mg really isn't a low dose. It's a pretty high dose of a rather weak drug.
