The drowsiness does go away after a time. Trust me, she won't think you're an addict if you ask for a dose increase, amitriptyline just isn't an addictive kind of drug, (you can get tolerance, but tolerance and addiction are worlds away) and 10 mg is pretty low.
Just one thing: Were you warned about the dangers of dry mouth? Ami can cause dry mouth, even if you don't really notice it, and that can lead to severe tooth decay, so you need to be especially careful about dental hygiene. Talk to a dentist if you have concerns in that area.
