Bulging Disc (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

6th June 2002
I have a bulging disc on L5-S1. This is the result of foot surgery which I had in late November 2001. I spent so much time recovering with my foot up that my back muscles weakened and my already poor back (due to scoleosis) lost a good deal of it's strength. I have been dealing with the bulging disc for five weeks and need to see a chiropracter every other day to live with the pain. I also see an acupuncturist once a week. I began taking amitriptyline to dull the pain but don't want to take it for too long. Does anyone have experience with the best way to heal a bulging disc?

Also, a complicating factor for me is that part of my my foot surgery was not successful and this may be adding to the destabilization of my back. I had a bunionectomy and two osteotomies (shortening of my big toe and second toe). The podiatrist took this approach because of continuous pain under my second metatarsel on the ball of my foot. (It hurts to walk). The bunion is gone, however, my pain under my second metatarsel is worse. Has anyone ever been through anything like this? Can you tell me if you were able to get rid of the pain.
Thanks so much for responding!
