Hi Donna,
I was on Sotalol for ages, I have atrial fibrillation. I started off on a really low dose (I am quite small and drugs tend to knock me for six) 20mg twice a day.
You will probably find that when you first go in it you will get a few side effects to start with (mine lasted for a couple of weeks) it is only while you get used to it. I felt dizzy and a bit sick and my eyes were a bit blurry but nothing major and it does disapear after a bit and it is fine.
It seemed to work ok then they put the dosage up to 40mg twice a day and that was ok for a while but I couldn't tolerate the higher dosage, I felt dizzy, sick, had lots of palpitations, blurred vision BUT only when the dose was too high, I also had some weird dreams, sort of when you are half awake and half asleep (if you know what I mean), they are nothing to worry about though.
When they reduced it all those side effects went and I got on with it brilliantly, if you do have any side effects that continue then speak to your doctor and ask if they can reduce the dose.
I would still be taking it but I got ventricular tachycardia as well and they took me off it and put me on amiodarone :-(
Hopefully I am going to have an ICD fitted soon so I can come off it and go back on the sotalol. If I had a choice I would definatly choose the sotalol over the amiodarone.
I hope you get on ok and let me know how you get on with it.
Lindsay :)
