What medicine is your mother on for afib?
I tend to have severe afib episodes. These grew progressively more frequent, like a couple of weeks apart. Twice I had cardioversion (shock). The cardiologist then put me on Betapace (sotalol), a powerful beta blocker, which slows my heart rate into the 40 -50 bpm range. I haven't had an episode since starting sotalol, almost a year ago.
Another medication used for afib is amiodarone, which is given for rhythm stabilization. However, the side effects of amiodarone include possible thyroid destruction and possibility of lung damage (including pulmonary fibrosis).
Regards,
Bill
