After many years of suffering with migraines and just using my general doctor, I realized I needed to see a neurologist, since the pattern has been changing.

He easily can see that it is migraines I'm suffering from, switched me from Imitrex to Amerge for now (the Imitrex has not been working as well any longer). But, wants me to have a brain scan (MRI) done "just in case".

Is this a usual step in the diagnoses of migraine? I don't have any underlying reasons why he would suspect anything else, other than the patterns having changed and this appears to be because of approaching menopause (most likely).

Just curious, has anyone else been sent for an MRI?
