Lump in throat/sent to another Dr/please more advise!! (Acid Reflux board)

18th July 2008
Holly Cow, I am not alone. I have the same problem with my throat and it was all of a sudden over 5 weeks now and I also posted it here see: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?p=3653759#post3653759

Well it felt like a hand on one side of my throat and that was freaky. Being I rarely go to the doctors I had to go because I went back to smoking after 4 years when my dear father was dieing so the guilt of getting throat cancer was overwhelming. I had an ultra sound reviling a 3mm nodule on my thyroid but the thyroid radioactive scan shows the thyroid was working well. The Dr. said I could see an endocrinologist but the earliest appointment is Jan 30th so I made the appointment and then went to see an ENT specialist and he did a tube with camera up my nose and down my throat and said it looked fine, I was relieved. He said it may be acid reflux and prescribed Nexium but that stuff takes a while to start working and I feel like I am choking often. And I don’t think it is acd reflux. So I now want to find a NYC Endo Dr. who will see me sooner. I also have more discomfort when I wear a tee shirt so I have to wear V-neck collars do any of you feel the same with the collars? The ENT specialist is going to do another ultrasound and if the nodule is 10mm I get a biopsy but I fear it will be 20mm in 6 months.

Good luck to all of you I am sure there is a reason for all of this and the more we search and share the closer we get to relief. And yes sleeping is tough I am ready for ambien : ) The throat mussel relaxers sound good too. I don’t like taking drugs so I am going to my chiropractor which I haven’t seen in a few years and have an adjustment and then I’m going to take some yoga classes as I haven’t had a class or practice in 3 months so I’ll let you all know how that goes. BTW my spouse thinks it is in my head a little (like it’s real but my body is making it because of stresses). I am under stress because my dad died and I have his estate woes but I am getting a handle of it all so I didn’t think it was that. But I smoked my brains out for 3 months when he was and eventually died because I felt badly because I couldn’t help him survive, it was extremely sad. Hey if all of this doesn’t help I’m going to a therapist and I’ll take sedatives because this throat feeling is very scary. I totally understand what everyone is going through.
Positive energy is coming your way.
Peace,
Linda
I have suffered with this lump in throat feeling off and on for several years now. Doc thought it could be from acid reflux...took meds, no help. Had some tests, all were fine. Do have two tiny thyroid nodules, but not large enough to cause this. Since all the docs say it's nothing I've figured it just must be a muscle spasm. I do get them in my neck and it interferes with the cervical curve so I've just assumed this causes it and try not to let it worry me too much. It IS annoying as sin though. Thankfully I do get relief from it as it comes and goes. Sometimes I have it for months and then it will be gone for longer. Have you tried a muscle relaxer or xanax? I don't usually push meds, but either of these may help relax that muscle (of course if it's not something else).
