   Is This Possible? (Diabetes board)

4th August 2007
I am taking amaryl twice a day. I work 2nd shift so I stay up until 2-3 AM and get up between 9-11 AM. I check my glucose and it's been running between 120-150 at 11 AM. My A1C in May was 7.3 and fasting glucose was 81 but this was after fasting 8 hours after eating lunch. I work in a lab so I can test myself at work and yesterday I tried to fast for 8 hours but after 5 hours started shaking so had my blood drawn then. My glucose was 69. I also ran my A1C and it was 6.1. I told my co-workers this makes no sense because my glucose levels haven't been good. Another coworker drew my blood again and we tested the new sample and my A1C was 6.2. I ate something after having my blood drawn earlier so this would have been about a 2 hour test and my glucose level then was 141. I know the A1C is an average of glucose levels over the last 3-6 months but I don't see how it could have dropped when my morning levels and other levels throughout the day have always been over 120, unless I have the shakes, when it is below 70. I am seeing a new internist this week and will be asking a lot of questions but am curious what others opinions, suggestions, etc are also. Thanks!
