Diabetes type 1.5 wondering some things... (Diabetes board)

12th October 2007
Sounds like youre kinda in the same situation im in, but they dx'ed you type 1.5.
I've been dx atypical "type 2" for several months(4) @ 279 mg/dl fasting ~ 12.9 A1c, although I'm not sure what I am or where i'm headed. I think i've had true control for about 1-2 months I'm 24 years old and 5'7" 150 lbs. Strictly treated with oral meds 2.0mg of amaryl and 500mg of metformin a day. I've seen numbers anywhere from 50-210 since i've been on the meds. They typically stay between 80-180 when i eat conservative (very low carbs ~ 50-60 a day). fasting always below 140. My c-peptide level was slightly low, - 2.10 , but not low enough to be concerned that i need insulin shots. I found my blood sugar is stable when i take my vitamins (zinc(25mg), chromium(400mcg-800mcg), magnesium (500mg-750mg) and eat low carb and fresh (uncooked veggies & fruits).
Lowering techniques: Cassia Cinnamon helps when i take it with decaf coffee, cactus leaves (nopal) help keep it stable throughout the night (boil it, eat the leaf and drink the tea), have a protein snack like almonds in the evening also helps.

basically, long story short, i would suggest trying to get an endo that will work with your type because you sound a lot like me. If you want to know my exact diet and what i'm trying/tried let me know and ill outline it for you.

hope that helps
