   Byetta Feedback? (Diabetes board)

23rd April 2007
The Byetta patient information insert states:
"Byetta is injected, twice a day at any time within the 60 minutes before your morning and evening meals (or before the two main meals of the day, approximately 6 hours apart). Do not take Byetta after your meal."

My doctor told me to start the injections just before I started eating for the first few shots. She said that would help with the nausea but to try to administer the shot later and later up to one hour so that it would have the maximum effect for the delayed empying of the stomach once you started eating. I was very fortunate that the nausea has not been a big problem for me. The longer timing sometimes is a bit harder and so I usually end up doing it minutes before I serve the meal.

I am pleased with the control I have achieved as far as my BG readings. Byetta has done a better job than Glucophage or Amaryl ever did. I was so hoping for the added benefit of the weight loss with Byetta but that has not happened (nor have I noticed that my appetite has diminished). Possibly when I start the 10mcg dose in a few weeks the other benefits will come.
Good luck everyone...we are lucky they developed this medication.

I think I lost 4 pounds on the 5mg, but I lost about 10 more when I moved up to the 10 mg. So give it some time. good luck...

My husband vomited so severely that he refused to continue with it. On Amaryl and Actos his readings were 200-300 anyway with drinking 5 to 6 Cokes per day. One week after stopping ALL softdrinks and sugar and taking
bitter melon caps and fenugreek caps his readings are 91-127. He uses a sugar substitute and has lost 35 pounds. He's 65. I never dreamed he would quit a 30+ year soda pop habit so suddenly. He must have Really trusted that sweet little doctor's assistant!! She also had him stop orange juice. He was actually poisoning himself with SUGAR. No wonder it used to be called SUGAR DIABETES. We older people know that!

My only thought on Byetta is: what is IN this stuff that makes people so sick?? Do we know?? My husband vomited 4 times and never touched it again, he then lost 30 lb simply from stopping soft drinks. I just do not believe that anything that makes you vomit is good for anyone. Even if your body allegedly "gets used to it."
He eats lots of real butter, pancakes, waffles but no soft drinks or pastries and lost all that weight with no exercise. He takes a Little Actos, Amaryl (dangerous, IMO), bitter melon and fenugreek. Do a search on Avandia if you're on that.
