I can tell you how it was with me. It seems Metformin is the first drug of choice. It reduces the output of glucose from the liver. I had controlled my glucose by diet and it had reached a point I could do no more. Low, low carbs messed up my digestion. I started with Metformin and Ameryl. Ameryl works the same as Glucotrol by making the pancrease output more insulin. My first dose of Amaryl was to be 2 mg. As I started to take it I decided that was not wise so I took 1 mg. The rest of the day I was really low and I was thankful that I had used my own judgement instead of just doing what I am told.

500 mg is the usual starting point for Metformin. Many people get digestive problems at first and some has to stop it because of that. It never bothered me. And over the days I increased it 500 mg, that is one tablet, until I was taking 2,000 which I think is about normal. As for comparing mg of Glucotrol to Amaryl I have no idea as numbers could be counted in different ways. But since it is available in 5mg and 10mg you are not on the minimum dose.

Interestingly, with me, Metformin alone nor Amaryl alone works. But with both I get results keeping my A1C lower than 6. With your current glucose level I too think you should get bqack to your doctor and not wait too long. You didn't say how long you have been on this but you do not want to stay that way. It took 1-2 hours to work with me.

I hope all goes well and would love to see you post that things are better.
