what do you do when you have really high blood sugar? (Diabetes board)

9th June 2006
I cannot seem to find in my refenence books what to do when you have really high blood sugar--like when do you go to the emergency room.

I am a type 2 and have been a type 2 for about 4 years. BTW: I am not on insullin.

I am at home recovering from a spinal injection to deal with a pinched nerve and I ma afraid that I have been going to the fridge and snacking a little here a little there (like a sip of gatorade or pop a biscottti that I usually only have one a day of.

Well I just checked my blood sugar and it is a whopping 340--way higher than it usually gets under the worst circumstances. I popped an extra Amaryl, but am wondering at what point I would need to go to the emergency room.

thanks
