I have been taking it (Glucophage) since I was diagnosed in Jan 2002. Yes, it has side effects and if you experience one contact your doctor.

I have noticed no side effects from the medication. It does take 7-14 days after starting to get the BG down toward the desired levels. My BG's were taking a rollercoaster ride so now I take 1x1000mg twice a day plus 1x4mg Amaryl twice daily. My BG's have been in the 85 - 120 range for months now.

Just remember every individual reacts differently to medications and if you notice anything strange, contact your doctor immediately.
