Quote from PhyllisAnn:Anyone else notice their blood sugar high when they first get up in the morning? This is before I eat. It averaged between 132-168 this past week first thing in the morning. I talked to the dr. about it..and he says it happens. Your liver is still producing or still needing sugar (I forgot how he worded it) during the night and since we aren't as active while sleeping..the blood sugar can go up. So..he has me taking 1/2 pill (Amaryl) at night. That's 1 mg. It hasn't dropped it. I am willing to bet money he increases my dosage at night..or do you think it takes time to get my body use to it? I take 2 mg of amaryl with breakfast..and it seems to drop my blood sugar during the day pretty well. Btw..I'm proud to say that in the past few weeks..since I've been diagnosed, I've lost at least 7 lbs!!! :bouncing:
Hi, Your liver starts pumping glucose to protect your body from too low glucose levels. I handle it with a low carb or a low glycemic snack right before bed. I usually eat about a half an apple and that takes care of it for me.
When you wake up, eat as soon as possible after taking your Amaryl. Metformin works with your liver and Amaryl works with your pancreas and that means it works with food moreso than fasting blood sugar. Metformin is actually better for your fasting blood sugar.
I have Amaryl at 5pm, a half hour before eating, a half an apple at 9pm and Metformin at 10pm. It's been working for me, my fbs is in the very low 100s most days now.
Congrats on losing 7lbs. It will start paying dividends in also lowering your blood pressure, cholesterol, tryglicerides and your blood sugar levels. Do you exercise? It has an effect on the next morning's numbers.
Best of luck with everything.
