I dont think a benzo addiction will always be such a nightmare. Almost every other addiction to a prescribed med is goin to be harder to quit than this one for most of people.
Its true alprazolam its kind of a short half life benzo, but i wouldnt say thats the only main reason for being so very addictive. there are so many other benzodiacepine analogues hyper-short-half life, like zolpidem, and they are not as abused as xanax. The truth is that it is still unknown how exactly most of meds act in your brain nor why some people may be so addicted to one benzo but not to another or even use benzos daily for a long time and then stop havin no WD at all.
In my experience i find that quitin xanax its not a really hard thing to do. Id just change it for another benzo with a longer halflife, like diazepam, or even flunitrazepam, and then reduce the dose slowly till i dont need them anymore (XR alprazolam would make the same trick). i find tramadol to be so so much addictive than oxycondone or hydro or any other med while most people wouldnt agree.
The only real thing we know is what most people experience with drugs and addiction, and its only statistics, so i dont think every single case of benzo long term use or abuse must be treated with a really serius detox program, they make things even worse than they were before u came in, in some cases.
I would think about it twice before i run for profesional help for a benzodiacepine addiction, cause it may not be really necessary sometimes, and it would save u a lot of sufer and that usual feelin of "i cannot do it alone, cant help myself, im dont have the power it takes" that makes everybody always so depressed .
Dont forget u will always be the only one who knows exactaly how are u truly feelin at any time, just find out what u really need and do it being sure it is the best choice u have.
