Hi,
It sounds like you might have gout - -("Gouty arthritis")?
My husband and brother both have had it. Gout often attacks the big toe joint. It makes the joint reddish and very sore.
Allopurinol is used to treat gout, which is caused by too much uric acid in the blood. It is a preventive medicine. If you are having a "gout attack" (i.e., swelling, redness, soreness, etc. in one of your joints), your doctor normally gives you another drug to knock it out of your system.
If gout is what you have, then you can research what foods to avoid, what foods to eat, and continue taking Allopurinol. Talk to your doctor...
Hope this helps!
