   recovering from septoplasty/turbin/sinus (General Health board)

30th April 2005
I've always been a pretty tough cookie when it comes to surgery and pain. But I dont think I could ever go through this again. I'm only 10 days post op, so I havent been able to reap all the benefits yet.

For the first week I couldnt breathe at all. Crusty blood in my nose was as hard as charcoal. I couldnt even feel the saline going up my nose. After my first ent visit post surgery, he said he suspected that i wouldnt feel better yet b/c of the the swelling and all. At that point I probably would have felt better if I was able to blow my nose.

I just had my 2nd visit yesterday and he still said I shouldnt be feeling great. (Hes sure right). The mucus is so thick in my nose, and when it comes out from irrigation it comes out in chewy-looking hunks GROSS. I can finally blow which is nice! I feel like i can breathe out of both nostrils for once. I hope this continues b/c it's starting to feel nice.

Sleep is honestly the real enemy in my life. When I wake up I have severe PND, stuffiness, etc. SO mornings are a nightmare for a couple hours. I usually have to get up extra early to help me feel decongested for the rest of my day.

I recommed avoiding anihistimes. Sudafed, mucinex and Sinucleanse are my buddies! I used to take allegra, zyrtec, flonase and they didint do crap. Ive given up on that b/c they weaken the immune system anyway.

I have realized that everyone's experiences with this surgery dramatically vary. But if anyone has any questions I would be glad to share some insight.{REMOVED}
