Acid Reflux Disease (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

18th October 2003
Hey 32skater,

I have reflux and sinus trouble. Reflux can be classified as GERD (which is more heartburn) or it can be classified as LPRD (Laryngopharyngeal reflux. LPRD is different from GERD. In LPRD the acid is backflowing all the way into your throat and larynx. Your esophogus can tolerate acid to a certain point, but the tissue is your throat ans sinuses cannot. It's like giving your larynx a chemical burn. Do you have a lot of throat clearing and excess mucous? I was diagnosed with GERD a year ago. In June, I started having drainage at night. I developed fluid on my ears. Mr regular md said it was allergies and put me on Allegra. All summer I battled these "allergies". Finally, Iwound up with severe bronchitus. I went to my Gastro for a regular check-up. He refered me to an ENT who also said my sinuses were clear. My voice box was extremely irritated and secreting excess mucous to protect it. It's my reflux causing all of it. I have researched the heck out of it, because my dr wants me to consider surgery or the new enteryx procedure.
