2 Years and counting! (Allergies board)

16th April 2004
Hello!

I have posted to this board in the past about my problem(s). I find it reasuring that at least I am not alone!

Well .. my story has not changed much. I am allergic to just about everything with dust & molds being my #1,2. In addition, I find that I can not even get close to odors such as cologne and cleaning supplies. And WOW I can't even describe what the detergent/fabric softner isle in the grocery store does to me. It is like an immediate reaction where my ears close shut.

With that said, my symptoms are mostly in my ears. I seldom have congestion; just occasional stuffiness in the nose combined with the constant under water feeling in my ears. I continue to goto a local allergist and have also gotten second (useless) opinions from an ENT. Both seem to not realize the discomfort I am in. After two years of this, I am even starting to notice hearing problems from the clogged up ears.

I am currently on Singulair and Allegra-D which helps only somewhat. Instead of loose congestion I now have dried up stones in my ears! ;( It is kind of like sandpaper grinding in my ears. I have also tried just about everything - seems like I was sort of an experiment at the docs office. Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, Clarinex, Just about all the sprays (which made me bleed), Astelin and also normal saline. I also have a touch of asthma (no doubt brought on by allergies) and take Qvar for that.

Just curious if anyone else could share their own story where they may be similar to me. Seems strange that two years ago I had normal allergy symptoms (itchy, runny, sneeze etc) and now I don't have any of that, just this darn pressure and a slight stuffy nose.

Here's hoping someday I will get better!!!

Keith
