   Breakthrough Bleeding (Women's Health board)

11th November 2003
You don't HAVE to wait three months. If you're in the middle of your second pack and still bleeding go back to your gyno and change pills. Alesse is very low dose, so chances are its too low dose for you, and the break through bleeding isn't going to stop until you change to a higher dose pill. Yes you can still have sex with your boyfriend without a condom as long as you're both STD free. You may or may not have a period during your placebo week. If you're bleeding a lot during the active pills, you'll probably have a very light period, or no period at all. And yes, keep taking your pill. If you stop, you will not be protected if you have sex without a backup.

i agree with strand3d on this topic...alesse is a low-dose form of the pill, and some women just need a stronger dose, i recommend Othro-Cyclen, or Ortho-Tri-Cyclen...if you are looking to skip your period entirely using the pill, use Ortho-Cyclen, or another single-cycle, higher dose pill. breakthrough bleeding is normal, and if you're concerned about having sex while experiencing this, use a second form of BC, like condoms, just to back it up until you've found a solution, if for nothing else but peace of mind.
