   Spiro (Acne board)

1st July 2005
I want to go on spiro and I am thinking about just buying it online. Is that a good idea and also I am a 18 year old male and wonder what a good dosage would be per day? Also, is there a difference between Spironolactone and Aldactone?

Although it is tempting to purchase the medication without a doctor's prescription, you really should be under the care of a professional. I thought spironolactone was used to treat acne in females because of its antiandrogenic properties. It blocks the effects of testosterone and is often combined with oral contraceptives such as Yasmin or Diane-35. Spironolactone is the generic name. Aldactone is the brand name.

You really should talk to a dermatologist. Once you get a doctor's prescription, you can choose to fill the prescription at a regular pharmacy or order it online. Most prescription drug plans pay for spiro and since spiro is generic, the co-pay should be cheaper than buying it online. Another thing with online pharmacies it that you always run the risk on not receiving the actual drug.
